GENERAL SEASON TIMELINE
Preseason "Combine"
Starting the last full week of July the Cary Junior Trojans tackle program begins with a two week preseason "combine". The first week is designed to accomplish the State mandated 10 hours of conditioning/acclimation and allows coaches to conduct their player skills assessment. During the first week, (or 10 hours) players rotate through conditioning drills aimed at developing basic speed, agility, and football skills while wearing only helmets and cleats. Additional pads are not allowed during the first 10 hours of combine. The second week (only after completing the required 10 hours of acclimation) players are allowed to practice in full pads while they rotate through full contact drills working in smaller groups. This allows players to continue developing football basics as they get ready for the regular season. During the combine, coaches continuously evaluate all players so they can properly draft players to their team as described in the draft process. If for some reason you miss one of the first 5 days (10 hours) there will be one make up day over the weekend. It is important to note that your player will not be able to wear full pads until after the initial 10 hour acclimation timeframe has been met.
Practice
Utilizing the C.G.H.S playbook, all weight classes practice at Lions Park down in "The Bowl" with Galway Park as an alternate practice site. Once school begins, most coaches elect to practice 3-4 nights a week for two hours each night (no more than 8 hours per week). The practice schedule and location is at the discretion of the head coach.
Season schedule
The regular football season begins at the end of July, beginning with combine, and runs until late October with games being played each weekend. Teams may play pre-season practice games and typically nine regular season games against other TCYFL teams. For teams reaching the post season, playoffs begin at the end of October with Super Bowls for each division occurring in the middle of November. For planning purposes, game schedules typically come out 2-4 weeks in advance.
